King’s has built a firm foundation in many aspects of the School. Every year we can delight in the outcomes of our ‘exit’ students, particularly those in Year 12. For example, in 2010, 26.4% of our Year 12 students achieved an ATAR above 90 which places them in the top 10% of the State. Indeed 93% of our students were in the top 50% of the State. You may have reviewed the Schools NAPLAN results. At Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 our students were generally above ‘average’ or significantly above average compared with the State average. More importantly, students new to the School, such as at Year 6 or Senior School, generally comment very favourably about both the School’s learning programs as well as the sense of welcome they experience. In response to our commitment to be leaders in the education field, King’s has invested significant resources over the past six years into middle years education (Years 6 to 9). The resulting King’s Middle School boasts unique and engaging approaches to learning and pastoral care. The benefits of both Primary and Secondary schooling have been retained within a new structure focusing on seamless transitions while maintaining a focus on the child. Throughout the Middle School, young people explore and identify their own abilities/gifts in addition to respecting those of others. In the Senior years (Years 10 – 12), the ‘new’ SACE commenced in 2009 at Year 10 with the PLP (Personal Learning Plan) and this year, at Year 11, subjects are following new subject outlines. The School’s approaches and structure blend very well with the new SACE and build on work we have done for a number of years. For instance the PLP builds on what we previously did with Work Education. As a Deputy Board member of the SACE Board, I believe the School is well equipped to manage the significant changes that are being introduced. The inbuilt flexibility of the SACE supports student learning in VET as well as the ‘traditional’ academic areas that are well represented in our subject choices. Our facilities have grown over the last 8 years, with work being completed this year. We have added specialist learning areas for Senior and Middle School students (Science, Technology, Home Economics, Art), additional classrooms, administration and student services, a new Performing Arts Centre, new Physical Education and Information Technology areas. The biggest and most expensive project – a 2 basketball court gymnasium, is currently under construction together with an extension of our Library. The Library extension will double its current size. Spiritually, our culture continues to develop. The shared partnership with Golden Grove Baptist Church (formerly Tea Tree Gully Baptist Church) has been a blessing and adds to family care services. You can see the fine worship centre along Wynn Vale Drive, which the School uses from time to time. Through KOSA (King’s Old Scholars Association), we know our students are entering many and varied career paths. They are taking their place in our wider community ready to make a positive and valuable contribution and are well equipped to face the many challenges that life presents. In these ways, the ‘Vision of Faith’ on which the School was founded continues to find expression in the lives of young people and families. We trust this too will be your experience of King’s. We look forward with great anticipation to your child joining King’s in 2012 and working together to develop young people with a love for Jesus and a passion for life and learning. Yours Sincerely RUSSELL J. ELEY Principal |
