Cultural Exchanges – Michael Parfitt Scholarship.

King’s has enjoyed a successful exchange program with Sonobe High School in Kyoto Prefecture Japan, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer Gymnasium, near Cologne, Germany since the late 90’s.

These short-term cultural exchanges were championed by then Head of LOTE, Michael Parfitt with the destination alternating each year between Japan and Germany. Among the many purposes and benefits, the exchanges broaden student’s experience of the culture and language and are designed to encourage students to continue studying a language through to Year 12 / Stage 2 (and beyond).

The Michael Parfitt Scholarship was established in memory of Michael’s legacy at King’s with the aim of assisting students to be involved despite their financial situation. Usually the scholarship funds part of the cost of the exchange via a part fee remission for the study of the target language at Stage 2.

Further details, criteria and the application process can be sought from the LOTE co-ordinator.
