I am really pleased to share with you that the Sports Centre is complete. The Official Opening was Wednesday 3rd August at 10.15am when Mr Tony Zappia (MHR for Makin) assisted and represented the Minister for Education. Of course there are always things to do and in this case mainly outside the building - landscaping, planting and shade. On the inside the building is amazing.
By way of history a gym has been in the Master Plan since 2002. A key issue was always cost and location. An obvious spot seemed the then Tango netball courts. We began discussion with Tea Tree Gully Council in 1999 concerning the Community Oval and later this encompassed the courts, however, it was not until 2002 that the courts became part of King’s. Securing the finances has taken even longer! In truth it was the BER (Building the Educational Revolution, part of the Commonwealth Government’s economic stimulus package) that tipped the balance in our favour. Good things are worth waiting for! The double court, weights and conditioning room, dance and aerobics room, 2 theory spaces, offices and toilets/change rooms make up the nearly 2,400 m2 building. For the ‘gym junkies’ among you the equipment in the weights/conditioning room is very impressive and certainly worth a look.
The extension to the existing Library is again quite impressive. The presence of IT in the Library will be a key feature and the IT solutions are reasonably complex, since two schools (Keithcot Farm and King’s) need access. Russell Eley |
