At King’s we believe that every child has God given talents that need to be developed and nurtured throughout that child’s time at King’s. Therefore, we believe that all children are ‘gifted’ in a variety of ways. At King’s we aim to develop all children in as many ways as our resources will permit via a Differentiated Curriculum. A Differentiated Curriculum is a pedagogical methodology that maximises the likelihood of learning needs of students being met within the mainstream classroom. A differentiated approach encourages students with difficulty to achieve success, while challenging students who have a special gift or talent in a given area, to pursue studies at greater depth, and generally at a faster pace. King’s also provides the opportunity for all students from Reception to year 7 to develop a range of thinking skills as an integral part of the classroom curriculum. The following thinking strategies are explicitly taught: Rec. - 6 Hat Thinking Year 1- 6 Hat Thinking Year 2 - Brainstorming Year 3 - Questioning Techniques Year 4 - Thinker’s Keys Year 5 - Graphic Organisers Year 6 - Bloom’s Taxonomy Year 7 - Creative Problem Solving
EXTENDED CURRICULUM Through the differentiated approach all students are able to access enrichment and extension of the curriculum within their own classroom. Students are also able to participate in various national competitions in Science, Maths and English as well as encouraged to participate in diverse co-curricular programs. These programs include a variety of sports, music tuition, dance, aerobics, chess club, debating, Mind Stretchers and Tournament of Minds. |
